Alaria, warrior priestess of Eften, is poisoned by a fragment from the Well of Souls. The only cure lies beyond the emotional killing field that surrounds the Source.
Alaria and Piper have defeated the Source armies, but are still unable to live in peace. The power of their enemy looms over them and their countries; the Masters of the Source have been subdued, but not crushed, and they’re rebuilding their forces, forging new weapons.
Garren, former hierarch of Auld, escapes the Source, carrying the ability to take others through the barrier. After Alaria is attacked and crippled, Piper, Alaria and Garren must brave the barrier and enter the Source, to force the Masters to cure Alaria, and give up their control of the Well.
